Well, no, I suppose I don’t. But that’s not the real question is it? The real question is whether Lexasoftware Organizer actually helps people get organized. The short answer is “barely”.

Lexasoftware is an extremely simple task manager. All it does is keep “to-do” lists. There are a very few features — each task has a category, and categories are customizable. Tasks can be assigned a due date, and a seperate reminder as well, with any sound notification that you care to assign. Tasks can also be prioritized either high, medium or low. You can print your tasks all at once or by category. That’s it. That’s all the features you get.

The only real distinction is that Organizer is completely skinnable – the appearance can be changed easily, and under Windows 2000 and XP the program can be made go transparent and stay “always on top” so you can keep your tasks in easy view all the time. It’s a nice feature, but not the most useful, since the window still obscures work underneath it, and the transparancy level is not adjustable.

Overall the program is extremely limited, especially for those more used to a fuller feature set from something like Outlook. For those using a PDA, there’s no way to sync the data of the Organizer with that data. It can’t export tasks, do hierarchechal tasks, sort tasks by different fields, nor create new fields for task, and priorities cannot be customized to accomodate individual preferences.

But depsite this somewhat critical review, I have to admit that the software is actually better for its simplicity — the interface is intuitive, and adding tasks is very quick. For those looking for an extremely simple task list without the hassles of Outlook (or the cost), this program may be worth its $20 price tag, though I would think that a $10 price-point is more appropriate until more features are added.

Note: though I talk a little trash about PR folks, we really don’t mind when stories are submitted in any form. And as for Lexasoftware, my guess is that it’s probably not some PR department, but actually one person, probably the one who wrote the software. For that we give kudos to Lexasoft (the member) for actually reaching out to us and letting us know about products he or she is developing. Keep us in the loop as things get better.

[8

post-7952","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-miscellaneous
["GET
