{"id":8824,"date":"2006-03-09T14:17:09","date_gmt":"2006-03-09T14:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/streettech.dreamhosters.com\/?p=8824"},"modified":"2006-03-09T14:17:09","modified_gmt":"2006-03-09T14:17:09","slug":"stanfords-amazing-spinybot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streettech.com\/?p=8824","title":{"rendered":"Stanford&#8217;s Amazing Spinybot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" align=\"right\" valign=\"top\" src=\"https:\/\/streettech.com\/storypics\/spinyBot.jpg\">While the Boston Dynamics&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdi.com\/content\/sec.php?section=BigDog\" target=\"new\">BigDog quadraped<\/a> has been getting lots of ink and electrons recently (and with good reason), we&#8217;ve been spending our time pouring over the work of the Stanford <a href=\"http:\/\/bdml.stanford.edu\/index.html\" target=\"new\">RiSE Project<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p> It&#8217;s so inspiring to see the evolution of the work that&#8217;s been done at Bob Full&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/polypedal.berkeley.edu\/twiki\/bin\/view\/PolyPEDAL\/WebHome\" target=\"new\">Poly-PEDAL Lab<\/a> at Berkeley, UMich&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhex.net\/\" target=\"new\">RHex hexapods<\/a>, and the earlier <a href=\"http:\/\/bdml.stanford.edu\/biomimetics\/documents\/sprawl\/\" target=\"new\">Sprawl bots<\/a> from Stanford. All of these designs were inspired by nature and insects&#8217; and geckos&#8217; abilities to climb vertical surfaces. Next stop? Climbing on ceilings.
